New Energy Efficiency Academy launches webinar on the Energy Efficiency Directive implementation
(eceee news, 10 Oct 2023) To support the implementation of the Energy Efficiency Directive, the Leonardo ENERGY webinar platform, initiated by the European Copper Institute, has joined forces with the Odyssee-Mure Project and the eceee to launch a new webinar series called the "Energy Efficiency Academy", starting 18 October.
Today, October 10th of October, the European Union will reach a major milestone in its journey towards becoming the first climate-neutral continent as the new Energy Efficiency Directive comes into effect. This directive, part of the "Fit for 55 package" and the "REPowerEU" plan, establishes a stronger legal framework for the EU to achieve its energy efficiency goals.
Energy efficiency plays a crucial role in reducing overall energy demand and is essential for the EU's climate objectives, as well as ensuring energy security and affordability. The revised Energy Efficiency Directive, published in the Official Journal on September 20th, 2023, significantly increases the EU's ambition in terms of energy efficiency.
EU Member States now have a two-year window to incorporate the directive's provisions into their national laws. It is crucial that the implementation of the EED recast begins promptly and without delay.
The webinar series is set to commence on 18th October and aims to provide a comprehensive and interactive learning experience on various aspects of energy efficiency, such as policy analysis and evaluation, technologies and solutions, and market developments. It also aims to foster dialogue and exchange among stakeholders from policy, industry, academia, and civil society.
The webinar marks the beginning of a series of monthly webinars that will delve deep into the key themes of the EED recast. These webinars will explore topics such as:
- The importance of the Energy Efficiency First Principle (EE1) in the EED,
- the progress towards achieving energy efficiency targets,
- the exemplary role of the public sector,
- closing the gap to EED 2030 targets,
- the heating strategy within the EED,
- addressing energy poverty, and
- highlighting the significance of sufficiency.
- Sufficiency: The "missing article" in the EED
